Metric Stream Ingestion

AI Monitor ingests CloudWatch metrics in near real time: CloudWatch Metric Streams → Firehose → S3 → Lambda → OpenSearch. Latency is sub-minute.

The editor keeps stream filters in sync with your subscriptions, so you only pay for the namespaces you actually subscribe to. The pipeline runs entirely inside your VPC — no metric data leaves your account.

Pipeline

  1. CloudWatch Metric Streams publish subscribed namespaces continuously.
  2. Firehose buffers and delivers to S3.
  3. S3 stores datapoints, partitioned (by account/region/date/hour for cross-account).
  4. Lambda processes and indexes matched datapoints to OpenSearch (metrics-*).

Collection interval

The collection interval depends on tier — 5 minutes on Basic, 1 minute on Essential and above — with correspondingly faster detection intervals on higher tiers.
